How to reach us
- Email support@app.kahf.online. We reply within two business days, usually sooner.

1. What Kahf is
Kahf is an app for chat, voice calls, meetings and communities. It runs in the browser at app.kahf.online and as an app on iPhone and Android. The same account works everywhere.
2. Your account
Signing in
You sign in with your email address and password. Kahf keeps you signed in on one device at a time: signing in on a new phone or computer signs the previous one out, and that device says so on its sign-in screen. Sign in again on the device you want to use.
Forgotten password
Tap Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen and follow the link we email you. Passwords are never stored in a readable form, so we cannot tell you your old one — only help you set a new one. In Ghost mode you still need your PIN to sign in after a reset.
Ghost mode (18 and over)
Ghost mode takes your account off your phone for a while and switches the phone to a stand-in profile. Turn it on in the phone app from Profile → Ghost mode. To come back on the same phone, open Ghost mode on the stand-in and enter your PIN. Anywhere else, sign in with your email, password and PIN (tap Have a PIN?). What Kahf keeps is in the privacy policy.
What Ghost mode can't do:
- Your PIN is the only way back. Kahf can't reset it. If you forget it, Kahf can only delete the account, when you ask by email.
- Anyone who has your PIN can get in, even if you were made to give it.
- Keep your password safe. Someone with your unlocked phone and your password could turn on Ghost mode with a PIN only they know and lock you out; Kahf could then only delete the account. Someone with your password can also use up PIN tries on the sign-in page, which pauses your own tries for a while.
- Your email can reset your password, not your PIN. After a reset you still need your PIN to sign in. A reset doesn't sign out a device that is already signed in. Someone who resets your password through your email and then can't sign in with it may guess that the account is in Ghost mode.
- Kahf holds the key. Kahf can't read your PIN, but it is protected with a key Kahf holds: it keeps other people out, not Kahf. Kahf's safety team can see which account a stand-in belongs to.
- Blocks don't carry over. People you blocked are not blocked on the stand-in, and a block on your account doesn't apply to it.
- Traces outside Kahf stay. Kahf calls stay in the iPhone's Recents list. Android's notification history, if you turned it on, keeps notifications for 24 hours, and old phone backups keep what they had.
- Others may notice. Your account goes offline just as a new member appears. The stand-in's email address is on Kahf's own members.kahf.online, which a community admin could see in a member list. If you had Do not disturb on, your account still shows Busy.
- The stand-in is kept for next time, with its chats and groups. Delete account on the stand-in deletes only the stand-in; your own account stays behind your PIN. To delete your own account, come back with your PIN first, or email us.
Your name and photo
Change your display name or profile photo from the Profile tab. Your age group and gender are fixed at sign-up; if either is wrong, email us.
3. Notifications and calls
No notifications on your phone
Allow notifications for Kahf in your phone's Settings. On iPhone: Settings → Notifications → Kahf. On Android: Settings → Apps → Kahf → Notifications. Without them, calls and messages can only reach you while the app is open.
Calls cannot reach someone
If Kahf says a person can't be reached right now, their app is closed and their phone cannot be woken for a call. Ask them to open Kahf, or to allow notifications as above.
The side button ends a call held to your ear
On iPhone, pressing the side button during a call that is on the earpiece ends the call. That is how the Phone app and every calling app behave. When the call is on the speaker or on headphones, the same button only locks the screen. To make the side button lock the screen during every call instead, turn on Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Prevent Lock to End Call.
Microphone, camera and speaker
Calls need the microphone. The camera is used for video in a one-to-one call when you turn it on, and for the meeting avatar. If a call or the avatar shows a card saying access is off, tap Open Settings on it and allow Kahf. The Speaker button in a call switches between the earpiece and the loudspeaker; meetings start on the loudspeaker unless headphones are connected.
4. Meetings and rooms
Joining by ID
Every meeting group has an ID such as abc-def-ghi. Enter it on the Meeting tab to join. The ID is shown at the top of the room, with a Share button to send it.
Avatars
In a meeting, instead of a camera feed, you appear as an avatar that follows your face. The avatar's camera picture never leaves your phone; only the movements do. Build your avatar from the Avatar button in a room.
Video in a one-to-one call
In a one-to-one call, video is off until you tap the camera button. Your video goes only to the person you are calling, through our servers; it is never recorded, and it pauses while Kahf is in the background. Each of you turns your own camera on and off.
Sharing your screen
Tap Share in a room. On iPhone, tap Start Broadcast on the sheet that opens, then switch to whatever you want to show. Stop from the bar at the top of the room or from the red indicator in the status bar.
5. Communities and groups
A community is a set of groups run by its admins. You join a community with its Community ID at sign-up, or later from the Communities tab; leave the field blank at sign-up and you join the main community. Public groups can be joined directly; a private group needs an admin's approval, which you request from the group's card. A community room ("Go Live") is opened by an admin; members join freely, and others ask at the door.
To leave a group or a community, open its info screen and tap Leave. A group's admins can also remove people from it.
6. Reporting a problem
Long-press a message, or open a person's name, to Report it. Reports go to the community's admins and to Kahf, and the person reported is not told. You can also Block someone: they will not know, nothing they send reaches you, and Kahf's safety team is told so it can look into it. Kahf reviews reports and blocks within 24 hours. Everyone using Kahf agrees to the Terms of Use, which have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.
For anything involving a minor's safety, email support@app.kahf.online with "Safety" in the subject. We treat these reports as urgent.
To tell us about a bug, use Feedback on the Profile tab or email us. Saying which phone and which build you use (the build number is on the Profile tab) helps us fix it faster.
7. Age rules
Kahf is for ages 13 and up. Members aged 13 to 17 read and tick a short declaration when they sign up. Adults and under-18s are kept apart: an adult cannot start a conversation with a minor, and minors do not appear to adults in search. Your age group is never shown to other members. Kahf's admins can see it, and so can a parent admin Kahf assigns, who sees who their own child is in touch with, never the messages.
8. Your data
What we collect, what we never do with it, and how to see, correct or delete it is all in the privacy policy. You can delete your account from the Profile tab; requests about your data go to privacy@app.kahf.online.
9. Contact
We read every message sent to that address.
